PROJECT HAITI

Global Relief Now is coordinating disaster relief efforts in Haiti after the earthquake of January 12, 2010.  So far in our first two trips, we have participated in providing thousands of dollars worth of medical supplies and clothing, and the delivery of clean water to several communities in Haiti!  (See more details in the following paragraphs of how your donations have already helped TENS OF THOUSANDS of Haitians!)  We will be heading back to Haiti in April to continue the relief and community building efforts.  Time is of the essence, so please consider making an immediate financial donation to Global Relief Now (Project Haiti).

After the first shipment of medication from AmeriCares was delivered in January, we delivered the second shipment of supplies on February 10th in partnership with the Back to Life Initiative in Mirebalais, Haiti.  Back to Life’s founder, Thimothee Guerrier, seeks to save the children of Haiti from being sold into slavery through providing food, education and healthcare.  Because they are about 30-40 miles north of Port-au-Prince, no relief efforts are reaching them.  Although they were once a small community, many of the rural towns are doubling and tripling as people are flocking out of Port-au-Prince.  Even those communities that were not directly impacted by the earthquake are suffering greatly because the price of food and fuel has more than doubled.

The Global Relief Now.org team flew into the Dominican Republic, purchased over 15,000 lbs of food, and delivered it to Mirebalais along with over 300 lbs of donated clothing, headlamps and medical supplies (blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, pulse oximeters, thermometers, etc).  In addition, we trained 2 nurses and 10 community healthcare workers, who will be able to provide basic medical care to the local communities.  The team then went to Port-au-Prince to deliver medical supplies and clothing, and provide medical care at Matthew 25 House.

In addition, we have facilitated the placement of several high-end water filtration systems from PWN Technologies in the Netherlands to several communities in Haiti.  Each of these units is worth about $23,000, can filter 2000L of water per hour, and is intended for communities of 50,000 to 250,000 people.  We were able to assess the water filtration system in Mirebalais, and we are so pleased to report that over 20,000 people have clean drinking water!

There is so much more to do, so we will be heading back to Haiti in April to continue the relief work, and assist in re-building these communities.  We are urgently asking for your assistance in purchasing medication, tents and other supplies.  We assure you that 100% of your donations will go directly to assisting victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

We are fortunate to have the support and fiscal sponsorship of St. Anthony’s Alliance, an Albuquerque based 501(c)3 non-profit organization, that supports lifesaving and life-enhancing interventions for the health and well-being of people living in moderate and extreme poverty worldwide.  Given that our 501(c)3 status is pending, this partnership will allow US citizens to receive a tax deduction for all donations.

Thank you in advance for opening your hearts to a group of people who have lost so much.  Your contribution to our global community will create hope for so many; together, we CAN AND WILL make a difference!

Global Relief Now.org would like to thank AmeriCares, Nonin and Heart to Heart International for their generous donations of over $50,000 worth of medical supplies.  We would also like to thank Patagonia, Helly Hansen, Petzl, Black Diamond, Home Depot, Eagle Creek, and Gerber for their generous donations of clothing, headlamps, duffle bags, flashlights, and tarps.  In addition, we would like to thank several groups for raising thousands of dollars through their own fundraisers, including Carlito’s Bar (Phi Phi Island, Thailand), NIS School (Japan), and the Butterfield and Comfrey Schools (Minnesota).  Last, but not least, we would like to express our humble thanks to Teresa, Elyce and Jim at St. Anthony’s Alliance, without whom we would not be able to have accomplished so much!
